About Alternative Directions, Inc.
Alternative Directions, Inc. (ADI), a Baltimore-based, statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1979, exists for the following four reasons:
1) To help men and women in prison who have civil legal needs that can be handled by paralegals providing pro se services related to divorce, child custody, child support, expungements and a variety of other pro se legal services; (our Civil Legal Program).
2) To assist women leaving prison to become independent, responsible citizens upon their release from custody. We provide case management services, coordinating residential, medical and mental health and adjustment needs (our Turn About Program).
3) To coordinate mentoring children having incarcerated parents by matching children and youth between the ages of 6-18, with mentors between the ages of 20 and above. These matches provide opportunities for children and youth to experience normalizing and educational experiences that enhances their likely success upon reaching adulthood (our CHIP Program).
4) To educates the public and policy makers about the barriers former prisoners face when reentering society.

Our vision is to make positive impacts towards change in society's view of returning citizen's and their families. We are dedicated to ending mass incarceration and the stigma associated with the affected population. We are committed to empowering returning citizens, giving them a voice and equipping them to have a positive impact on their families and communities.
