RoundUP app: RoundUp is an app that works with iPhone, Android and Web-based products to set up a donation account. Just visit the RoundUp app in your App Store, Play Store or visit www.roundupapp.com. For more information about security click or tap this link. RoundUp is a way to donate your "change" from a purchase using your designated credit card or check card, to the next whole dollar. For example, if you make a purchase that costs $11.57, RoundUp will round up your purchase to $12.00 and send ADI $0.43. It will treat each purchase using your designated card in the same way, up to the dollar limit you set for your donation. It couldn't be easier. Just follow the instructions from the app or visit the website.

How Does Your Donation Support ADI?

When people leave prison, they are given $50 and a garbage bag to carry their personal belongings. Some need a 13- gallon waste basket bag, while others, the lucky ones, may need a 24-gallon bag. Most of them have no more possessions than fit into a garbage bag. Think of the many men and women who "come home" to no home, no job, no transportation, and no structure to support them. Think of the children whose lives are profoundly affected by whether or not their parent will be able to provide the support they need to beat the odds and not end up in jail or prison themselves.

What your contribution means for women and men in prison or returning to their communities after incarceration, or the children we serve in our CHIP program?
  • A donation of any size can make a difference in one of our client's and their families' lives. We appreciate all offers of support.
  • $25 will pay for personal hygiene products, make-up, shampoo, etc. for a returning woman.
  • $50 will support a trip to Hagerstown for our paralegals to visit prisons there and provide information on select cases.
  • $75 will purchase various personal toiletries for a TAP client and a winter coat for a woman leaving prison who has nothing.
  • $125 will pay for some new clothing for a child in the CHIP Mentoring Program or a woman re-entering society from prison.
  • $150 will pay for educational and training materials for the TAP Program women.
  • $250 will pay for a 15 passenger van and fuel to transport our mentor children to a summer camp activity.
  • $280 will pay for a TAP client bus pass for four months after release. Transportation assistance is essential for those leaving incarceration to get to counseling sessions, medical services, training classes, job interviews, and all the other travel critical to re-entry.
  • $300 will cover the medical costs a TAP client faces for the first 90-day period following incarceration, until the state medical insurance is granted.
  • $400 will pay for one year of school supplies for a child in the CHIP Mentoring program.
  • $500 will pay for two months of photocopying child support and divorce packets, as well as the postage expenses that are needed to help prisoners represent themselves in pro se civil legal matters such as child support modification, child custody, obtaining legal documents, etc.
  • $550 will pay for an outing to the Baltimore Zoo for 30 mentors and their mentees in the CHIP Mentoring Program.
  • $1,000 will pay for job readiness training fees, books, and supplies, as well as interview outfits and work uniforms (if necessary) for a TAP client.
  • $1,080 will pay for two months rent for one of our TAP women as they transition into their own housing, following a successful year in the TAP program.
  • $1,250 will pay for one day of program services for all clients and services of ADI.
  • $4,000 will pay for one year of intensive case management service for one woman in the TAP program, which is the key to successful re-entry. Compare this to the $40,000+ a year to keep a person in prison.

Think about your own priorities for gift giving this year and we hope Alternative Directions will be high on your list.
Alternative Directions accepts contributions by check, credit card, gift cards as well as cash, when appropriate. We also accept gifts-in-kind, of gently used clothing, women's toiletries, etc.
